STD202
Description
The STD202 is a multi-purpose, stand alone single board computer containing a powerful 16/32-bit CPU, RAM and EPROM capability, and serial as well as parallel I/O. The CPU is code compatible with the Motorola 68000 microprocessor and the card has Z80 compatible memory, I/O and interrupt structures. The user can jumper select either variable vector or auto-vectored interrupts. The card supports the three 68008 interrupt levels to distinguish between on-board, STD Bus INTRQ, and STD Bus NMIRQ interrupts. Each level is subdivided into additional levels via the PCI/PCO priority chain. The 8 MHz card is compatible with most 4 MHz STD Bus memory and I/O cards.
General Operation
The STD202 can accommodate up to 64 Kbytes of EPROM or 8 Kbytes of RAM and 32 Kbytes of EPROM. This memory is in addition to any off-board memory that may reside on the STD Bus. Using address and data strobes, the card extends the usable addressing range of the STD Bus to 1 MByte of memory. Using the MEMEX signal, the memory that the STD202 addresses is split into two distinct areas: "Normal", which allows access to any 16-bit address decoded cards (64K); and quot;Extended", which allows access to any 20- or 24-bit address decoded cards (1M). This separation of memory space allows the commonly available 16-bit addressable memory cards to be used simultaneously with the newest generation of extended address memory cards. As an alternative, the MEMEX signal may be used to split memory into a protected "supervisor" memory page and an unprotected "user" memory page.
The card contains a powerful serial communications controller, the Zilog 8530 SCC to control two serial I/O channels. This chip supports multiple protocols, including asynchronous, SDLC, HDLE, X.25, Bisync and Monosync. One channel is RS232C compatible with a set of modem handshaking lines; the channel is configured as a DCE (Data Communications Equipment). The other channel is RS422 compatible and is suitable for multi-drop or point-to-point networks. This channel can operate as a network controller, allowing addressable software defined bi-directional communication with up to 32 network nodes.
The card utilizes the Zilog 8536 CIO, a counter/timer and parallel I/O device. Three separate or cascadeable counter/timer channels may be used as counters or to generate pulses or waveforms. Two 8-bit parallel I/O ports are buffered and brought to the edge of the card. These ports maybe used in one of three primary modes: as a SASI/SCSI bus controller, as a Centronics compatible line printer interface or as a bi-directional I/O port.
