STD207

STD207

Highlights

Description

The STD207 is a very high performance, multipurpose, STDbus Single Board Computer. The on-board hardware and software facilities include up to 1 MByte of memory, dual communications ports, and both SCSI and Centronics interfaces providing, for example, a real-time, two user, disk-based system on a single STDbus card. The 68000 processing power, high memory capacity, and hardware functionality, combined with the available software, makes MICRO-LINK's STD207 the first Single Board System available on the STDbus.

CPU

The Motorola 68000 family includes 16 and 32-bit compatible implementations and has the widest acceptance in industrial applications. The STD207 is thus software compatible with both VMEbus and STDbus products, including MICRO-LINK's VME processor family and 68000 STDbus products The STD207 is the first bus base product to realize the full potential of the 68000 (or 68010) CPU. Exploiting newer and faster revisions of Motorola processor, together with a carefully optimized memory interface for zero wait-state operation, the STD207 outperforms all STD and VME 16-bit computers and challenges the performance of 32-bit computers.

MEMORY

Since the exceptional performance of the STD207 derives from the on-board, high speed memory, the STD207 is designed to provide sufficient RAM and ROM memory for most applications. Eight on-board Bytewide memory sockets, organized in 16-bit pairs, may be configured for many popular ROM/PROM/EPROM/EEPROM and SRAM devices. When using SRAM, each socket pair may be configured with battery backup for non-volatile data storage. In addition, one half megabyte of DRAM can be provided, and a software transparent refresh is included on-board.

ONBOARD I/O

Fulfilling the concept of a Single Board System, the STD207 provides standard interfaces to system peripherals. Two multifunction sync/async serial ports provide communications capability; one port is configured as RS232 while the other port may be switched dynamically between RS232 and RS485. A parallel I/O controller provides 20 buffered I/O lines. The standard configuration supports both a parallel Centronics printer interface and a SCSI disk controller interface. The I/O controller also includes three 16-bit counter/timers.

Interrupts

Multilevel 68000 interrupts are fully supported for both on-board and STD based requests. Three levels are used; high priority level 7 is associated with the STD NMI (Non-Maskable Interrupt), level 5 is used by the onboard serial, parallel and counter/timer devices (with internal prioritization and context sensitive vectoring), and finally, level 2 is the STD IRQ which uses standard STDbus interrupt acknowledge cycles to fetch response vectors.

Reset

The STD207 includes a multifunction power monitor and reset circuit. The card generates a CPU, local and STDbus reset on power up, power fail, and in the event of a push button reset, external STD SYSRESET or CPU halt. The CPU may reset the local and STDbus system with the 68000 RESET instruction.

STDbus

The STDbus interface provides the flexibility to extend the STD207 Single Board System into a configuration that meets all your application needs. The interface provides for up to 16 Mbytes of memory expansion, up to 128 Kbytes of I/O ports, and full support for STD system functions including interrupts and DMA. All STD207 bus accesses are synchronized to the STDbus clock and meet the timing requirements of the associated STDbus specifications. Several alternative configurations are available to match the various STD interface standards (STD-Z80, STD-8088, etc.).
