STD216

Highlights

Description

The MICRO-LINK STD216 is a general purpose STDbus single board computer built around the powerful i80C188 16-bit CPU. It includes a large and flexible eon-board memory capacity accessed without wait states. On-board I/O functions include the dual DMA channels, three counter/timers, two serial ports, an expandable parallel port and a multi-source interrupt controller. Additional I/O functions can be added through the industry standard ISBX interface. The card supports STDbus memory and I/O operations, vectored interrupts and the Z80 return from interrupt (RETI) opcodes. The i80C188 interrupt controller can provide vectors and prioritization for all or some of the on- and off-board interrupts.

General Operation

The STD216 includes up to 1 MByte of DRAM, one 32-pin socket providing 64 to 256 Kbytes of EPROM and one 32-pin socket for 2 to 512 Kbytes of SRAM. The i80C188 dual DMA controller can access the full 1 MByte memory address space and can perform transfers from memory to memory or between memory and I/O.

The basic STDbus memory addressing range of 64 Kbytes is expanded to 1MByte by multiplexing the upper address bits onto the data bus during the first part of each cycle. The STD MEMEX signal may be used to dynamically select 64 Kbytes addressing and extended 1 MByte addressing.

The card uses the powerful 85C30 serial communications controller to provide two serial I/O channels. The SCC supports multiple protocols, including asynchronous, SDLC, HDLC, X.25, Bisync and Monosync. One channel is configured as a full sync/async RS232 DCE port. The second channel may be used as either a second RS232 channel or an RS422/485 channel. When configured for RS422/485, the channel is suitable for multi-drop or point-to-point networks. The i80C188 DMA controller may be used to transmit and/or receive data on both channels.

The STD216 parallel I/O port features an 8-bit bi-directional data latch, and also provides access to the i80C188 DMA handshake, counter/timers inputs and outputs, and external interrupts. This port may also be configured as a parallel printer interface. The I/O port can be expanded, using the STD206-922, to three 8-bit I/O ports that allow for direct connection to OPTO22 compatible industrial I/O racks.

An ISBX I/O connector on the card allows the user to expand the card's I/O capability by adding any ISBX expansion board from a wide range of standard products.
